 Quad
canes are canes with a straight shaft, contoured handles and four
points that come in contact with the ground. They are available
with either wide or small bases and are more stable than single-point
canes. People with significant muscle weakness in both the arm and
leg on one side of the body, which often happens following a stroke
or brain injury, may benefit from the use of a quad cane.
Quad canes come in two varieties depending on the size of the rectangular
base. Smaller bases usually measure around 6 inches by 8 inches
and can support up to 250 pounds of weight. Lager bases usually
measure around 8 inches by 12 inches and have a 500 pound capacity.
The exact measurements of the cane will vary from one manufacturer
to another.
The handles of these sturdy canes are made for comfort. They are
contoured to provide a comfortable grip. Many manufactures provide
foam handgrips to make these canes even more comfortable. Most quad
canes have adjustable handles as well. The handles adjust upward
